AI answer readiness checker

Check whether a page is easy for ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews to quote for the question your buyers ask: the answer near the top, question headings, passages that stand on their own, and content in the raw HTML.

Free · No signup · Reads public pages only

What someone would type into ChatGPT or Google, that this page should answer.

How it works

  1. Paste the page's address and the question a buyer would ask an AI assistant.

  2. We read the page's HTML the way most AI crawlers do, without running JavaScript, and check how easy it is to lift a clean answer from it.

  3. You get what helps and what gets in the way. Where it's offered, you can also see the passage an AI would most likely quote.

What answer-ready means

AI assistants that search the web, like ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews, don't read your page top to bottom the way a person does. They fetch it, break it into passages and pick the few that best answer the question. A page is answer-ready when one of those passages answers the question on its own: clearly, near the top, and without needing the paragraph before it to make sense.

None of this guarantees a citation. Which sources an assistant picks depends on its search results, your site's reputation and much else no checker can see. What you control is whether your page makes the job easy, and that's what this tool measures.

What this checker looks at

  • Whether the question's words appear in the first 100 to 150 words. An answer buried under a long intro is easy to miss.
  • How many headings are phrased as questions. A heading that asks the question, followed by a direct answer, is a ready-made quote.
  • Paragraph length. Short paragraphs split into clean passages; walls of text don't.
  • Lists and tables, which assistants lift for steps, comparisons and specs.
  • Passages that open with "This", "It" or "They". Lifted on their own, nobody knows what "it" is.
  • Whether the text is in the raw HTML or only appears after JavaScript runs. Most AI crawlers don't run JavaScript, so they get the empty version.
  • Structured data, a visible date and a named author, which help an assistant tell what the page is, how current it is and who stands behind it.

How to make a page easier to quote

Answer first, explain second. Put a one or two sentence answer directly under the heading that asks the question, then add the detail. Name the subject instead of starting with a pronoun: "Our Pro plan includes phone support" can be quoted alone, "It includes phone support" can't.

Cover the follow-up questions too. Someone asking for the best CRM for a small agency also wants to know price, setup time and integrations. Sections that answer those give an assistant more to work with, and our query fan-out tool shows which follow-ups a question tends to set off.

Keep the important text in the HTML your server sends. If your site is a JavaScript app, server-side rendering or pre-rendering fixes this for AI crawlers and search engines at the same time. Google says its AI features need no special markup or file: the same crawlable, helpful pages that do well in search are what they draw on.

The passage an AI would quote

Where sign-up is open, you can ask a small AI model to read your page and pick the passage it would quote for your question. It has to pick text that's already on the page, word for word, and we check that it did before showing it. It also says whether that passage really answers the question, and lists the parts of the question your page doesn't cover.

Treat it as a second opinion, not a prediction. Real assistants use bigger models and compare your page with others, so they may choose a different passage or another site. But if even a small model can't find a clear answer on your page, that's worth fixing.

What this checker can't see

It doesn't check whether AI crawlers are allowed in. A robots.txt rule or a firewall can block them before any of this matters, and our AI crawler checker tests that. It also can't tell you whether assistants mention you today. Our AI visibility checker asks them.

Questions people ask

What does AI answer readiness mean?

How easy a page is for an AI assistant to quote: the answer near the top, sections that stand on their own, and text a crawler can read without running JavaScript. It's the part of AI search you control on the page itself.

Is this the same as optimizing for AI Overviews?

Partly. AI Overviews draw on Google's search index, so the page has to be indexed and competitive in normal search first. Answer readiness helps after that: a clear, self-contained passage is easier to pick.

Do question headings really matter?

They aren't required, but they help. A heading that matches the question, followed by a direct answer, makes a clean passage for AI assistants and for people skimming the page.

How does "Show the passage an AI would quote" work?

A small AI model reads your page's text and picks the passage that best answers your question. It can only pick text already on the page, word for word, and we check that before showing it. It's offered where sign-up is open, with 5 free lookups a day.

Can this guarantee ChatGPT will cite my page?

No, and no tool can. Assistants choose sources from their own search results and their own judgment. This checker tells you whether your page makes that choice easy.

Is this AI answer readiness checker free?

Yes. The checks need no signup, have no limit you'll hit in normal use, and only read public pages. The quote add-on is free too, a few times a day.
