What a keyword combiner is for
A keyword combiner, sometimes called a keyword mixer or multiplier, does one job: it takes lists of modifiers and terms and writes out every combination. Three modifiers, four products and five towns become sixty keyword ideas in a second, with no typing and no missed pairs.
- Seeding keyword research with every variation of a product and its modifiers, like cheap, best, near me or for beginners.
- Building ad groups with phrase and exact match versions of the same keywords.
- Planning service or location pages, such as a service list combined with a list of towns.
- Writing a list of keywords to track for rankings.
How the combinations are built
List 1 comes first, then list 2, then list 3. With "buy" and "cheap" in list 1 and "running shoes" in list 2, you get "buy running shoes" and "cheap running shoes". An empty list is skipped. Turn on every order and the lists are also combined the other way round, such as "running shoes cheap", which matters for searches people type back to front.
Repeats are removed by default, ignoring capitals and extra spaces, so "Running Shoes" and "running shoes" count once. The joiner can be a space for keywords, a hyphen for URL slugs, or nothing at all for hashtags and domain name ideas.
Match types, for Google Ads
Ticking a match type writes each keyword the way Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising expect it: plain for broad match, in "quotes" for phrase match, and in [brackets] for exact match. Tick several and every keyword is written once per type, ready to paste into an ad group's keyword box.
Match types are for ads only. Organic search has no match types, so leave them off when the list is for SEO research, or the quotes and brackets will end up in your keyword tool.
From combinations to keywords worth targeting
A combiner can't tell you whether anyone searches for what it writes, and most combinations of a long list are things nobody types. The next step is to look up search volume and difficulty, keep the combinations with real demand, and group the ones that mean the same thing. Google usually ranks one page for a whole group of close variants, so ten near-identical keywords rarely need ten pages.
Paste the list into the keyword research tool for volumes, then into the keyword clustering tool to see which keywords share the same Google results and belong on one page.
Limits
Each list can hold up to 500 items, and the tool lists up to 10,000 combinations at a time. If your lists would make more, it says how many and shows the first 10,000; shorten a list or split the job into batches. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Questions people ask
How many keywords can I combine?
Up to three lists of 500 items each, with up to 10,000 combinations shown at once.
Can I use it for Google Ads?
Yes. Tick phrase or exact match and each keyword is wrapped in quotes or brackets, ready to paste into an ad group. Broad match keywords are written plain.
What's the difference between in order and every order?
In order means list 1, then list 2, then list 3. Every order also writes every other arrangement of the lists, which doubles the count for two lists and multiplies it by six for three.
Does it check search volume?
No. It writes combinations and looks nothing up. The keyword research tool shows which of them people actually search for.
Is the keyword combiner free?
Yes, with no signup and no limit beyond the list sizes above.
