Free · No signup · 5 lookups a day
How it works
Enter up to five keywords, one per line, and your website if you want to see where you stand.
We run each one as a live US Google search and wait for the AI Overview to load, the way it loads for a person.
For each keyword you see whether an AI Overview appeared, its sources, whether it cites you, and where you rank below it.
What an AI Overview is
An AI Overview is the AI-written summary Google shows above the normal results for some searches. It answers the question in a few paragraphs or bullet points and lists the pages it drew from, as small cards beside or under the text. Those listed pages are its citations.
For a business, there are two things to know about each keyword: does Google show an AI Overview at all, and if it does, is your page one of the sources? A searcher who reads the summary may never scroll to the blue links, so a citation in the AI Overview can be worth more than a place in the results below it.
How to read the results
Each keyword gets its own card. "No AI Overview" means Google didn't show one for that search when we checked. That's common for short, navigational or shopping searches, and it can change from one day to the next.
When an AI Overview appears, open "What the AI Overview says" to read the start of it, and look at the list of sources. If you gave your website, your own pages are highlighted in that list, and the card shows your position in the ordinary top 10 results.
Compare the two. Ranking well but not being cited usually means another page answers the question more directly or more completely. Being cited without ranking in the top 10 happens too: Google's AI doesn't only quote the top results.
The "Sites Google's AI cited most" list adds up the sources across all your keywords. If one site keeps coming up, read its pages: that's the standard of answer Google's AI is quoting for your topic.
What tends to get a page cited
Google's own guidance for its AI features is the same as for search in general: helpful, reliable pages written for people, which Google can crawl and index. Beyond that, a few habits make a page easier to quote:
- Answer the question near the top, in a sentence or two that makes sense on its own.
- Use headings that say what each section answers, so the right passage is easy to find.
- Cover the follow-up questions a searcher would ask next, such as cost, options and who it suits.
- Keep facts current and dated, especially prices and product details.
- Make sure the text is in the page's HTML, not only added later by JavaScript.
What this checker can't tell you
It checks one search, from the US, in English, on desktop, at one moment. AI Overviews differ by location, device and time, and Google tests changes all the time, so a missing AI Overview today may appear tomorrow. Within 7 days the same check shows the saved result rather than searching again.
It also can't tell you how many clicks an AI Overview sends you. Google Search Console counts AI Overview appearances inside your normal web search data, without a separate click count, so traffic from them can't be split out exactly.
Questions people ask
Why does Google show an AI Overview to me but not in this check?
AI Overviews vary by location, device, account and time, and Google doesn't show them on every search. This check uses a US desktop search with no account. If you see one and we don't, it may be shown to some searchers and not others.
Does ranking first mean Google's AI will cite me?
No. Many cited pages rank well, but Google's AI picks the passages that answer the question best, and it often cites pages from outside the top few results. A page that ranks but answers indirectly can be skipped.
Can I stop Google from using my pages in AI Overviews?
Google says AI Overviews follow the same controls as search snippets, such as the nosnippet and max-snippet rules. Using them also limits how your page appears in normal results, so think before you do.
How many keywords can I check?
Up to five per check, and five checks a day. Each keyword is a live Google search, which costs us money, so the free version is capped.
Is this AI Overview checker free?
Yes, with no signup. It's open in the countries where RomeoSEO is available, because each check runs a paid live search.

Romeo makes your pages easier for AI to quote
He checks which of your keywords show AI Overviews, compares your pages with the ones Google cites, rewrites the sections that answer indirectly, and sends each change for you to approve.
