Free · No signup · 5 lookups a day

One per line, or separated by commas.

How it works

  1. Enter your website and up to five keywords, one per line.

  2. We run a live Google search in the US for each keyword and read the top 100 results.

  3. You get your best position for each keyword, the page Google picked, who's above you, and what else is on the results page.

Why your own Google search is the wrong way to check

Searching for your keyword yourself is the most common way people check rankings, and the least reliable. Google tailors results to your location, your language, your device and what you've searched before. If you visit your own site often, Google may well show it higher to you than to anyone else.

This rank checker asks Google from a neutral US location, signed out, with no history, and reads the top 100 results the way a new visitor would see them. It's a clean snapshot of one moment. Run it again next week and positions may have moved a little: rankings shift daily, and that's normal.

How to read your rankings

  • Position counts ordinary (organic) results only: #1 is the first normal result under any ads, maps or AI answer. That's the standard way rankings are counted, but it means #1 can still sit far down the screen.
  • Ranking page is the page on your site Google chose for that search. If it's not the page you'd pick, Google thinks a different page answers the search better, or two of your pages are competing.
  • Top 3 shows who you're up against. If they're all huge brands, a page-one spot may take a long time. If they're sites like yours, it's a fair fight.
  • Also on the page lists the special results: an AI Overview (and whether it links to you), People also ask boxes, local map results, videos, forum threads and more. Each one pushes ordinary results down and takes clicks, so a #3 under an AI Overview and a video carousel gets fewer clicks than a #3 on a plain page.

"Not in top 100" means none of your pages appear in the first 100 results. For a page you've written about that exact topic, it's worth checking whether Google has indexed the page at all.

What to do next with each result

Positions 1 to 3 get most of the clicks. Keep those pages up to date and watch for newer competitors.

Positions 4 to 10 are on page one but below the fold for most searches. Improve how well the page answers the search (a direct answer near the top, a clearer title, examples the top results have and you don't), and link to it from your other relevant pages.

Positions 11 to 20 are the best opportunities you have. Google already considers the page relevant. Small, focused improvements are often enough to move it onto page one, where the clicks are.

Below 20, or not ranking, usually means the page doesn't match what Google thinks people want for that search, or the site isn't yet strong enough on the topic. Compare your page with the top three: are they a different kind of page altogether?

What this rank checker can't tell you

It checks Google in the US, in English, from a general US location. Rankings in other countries, in a specific city or on a phone can differ, sometimes a lot for local searches.

It shows a single moment, not a trend. For history, Google Search Console's performance report shows your average position over time for every search you appear in, using Google's own data. A rank tracker that checks the same keywords every week (Romeo does this for customers) shows whether changes you make are working.

Occasionally Google hides a result's link behind a redirect. When that happens we find your site from the address Google prints under the result, and say so next to the page.

Questions people ask

Why does my ranking look different when I search myself?

Google personalises results by location, device, language and search history. This tool searches from a neutral US location with no history, which is closer to what a new visitor sees.

Why only five keywords?

Each keyword is a live Google search of the top 100 results, which we pay for. Five keywords per check, five checks a day, keeps the tool free. Checking the same keywords again within a week is free and returns the earlier result.

Does the position include ads and AI Overviews?

No. Position counts ordinary results only, which is how rankings are usually measured. Ads, AI Overviews, maps and other special results are listed separately, and the tool tells you if the AI Overview links to your site.

Does it check mobile or desktop rankings?

Desktop. Mobile results are usually similar, but special results like maps and videos can appear in a different order on phones.

Can it track my rankings over time?

Not on its own. It's a one-off check. Romeo tracks your keywords every week as part of the product, and Google Search Console shows your average positions over time for free.
